Bkub is notorious for being a closed off hermit who gained an international following through his comics. But Bkub didn’t train himself on the normal mangaka path of assistant work to sending in comics to magazines. He got his start shitposting on the Internet and making doujin.
New fans of Bkub’s mega-popular Pop Team Epic series only need to dig online a little to discover that doujin launched his career and he loves the “creative freedom” it brings. Even after becoming a global success, Bkub still parodies other series in his free time, like Golden Kamuy.

Unlike most doujinshi mangaka, Bkub didn’t draw hentai, and instead gained fame for a series of Touhou Project shorts centering around the loveably selfish Chen. The light series features Bkub’s patented taste of absurd humor, nonsequitur, and meta-references. Bkub began publishing the doujinshi on Pixiv with certain panels becoming popular on 2ch.
Bkub’s other doujinshi works include parodies of The iDOLM@STER, Tiger & Bunny, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Bkub continued to work on various comedy doujinshi, but his hard work paid off in 2014 with Pop Team Epic. The publisher Takeshobo began serializing Pop Team Epic on their Manga Life Win website and would later sell print copies.
Pop Team Epic‘s success has overshadowed Bkub’s doujinshi catalog, which offers fun twists on pre-existing franchises and allows him to work on non–Pop Team Epic originals.
However, the maladjusted duo of Popuko and Pipimi would do the unthinkable – get an anime adaptation. Pop Team Epic looked like an impossible project, but producer Kotaro Sudo of King Records pushed the idea forward. Bkub’s input and the collective efforts of various independent artists led to Pop Team Epic being one of the most talked about series of the winter 2018 season.
Bkub has worked on smaller manga projects like Honey Come Chatka and Hyper Ultra Girlish, but Pop Team Epic will forever be his legacy.
Artists have fallen in love with Golden Kamuy, which is an adventure series about a war veteran and a young Ainu girl searching for missing gold.
Fans are showing off their talent drawing the cast, which is clad in Meiji Period clothing. This time period isn’t often used in anime and manga, making the style a fresh challenge for artists.
The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump had a fun collaboration between the magazine’s artists. Each artist drew their lead character cosplaying as another Weekly Shonen Jump character.

Morikura En is the elusive artist that designed Kizuna Ai, a popular virtual Youtuber.
Morikura is known for publishing doujinshi art books at Comiket, but they have a few official projects too. They have drawn the illustrations for the Hoiku no Kishi to Monster Children and Orenchi: ni Kita Onna Kishi to: Inakagurashi suru Koto ni Natta Ken light novels as well as designed the cast of the Neko ga Kureta Marui Shiawase short anime.

Tite Kubo may not be the greatest story writer, but he has an impeccable sense of style.
After all these years, Kubo announced that his Bleach series has an official Instagram account. For now, the account is being used to share color illustrations from the manga and it’s using Instagram’s cells for some cool effects.
Weekly Shonen Jump began publishing Kubo’s Bleach in 2001 and it ended in 2016. The long-running series starred Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who can see spirits. Ichigo accidentally steals the powers of a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki while saving his family, which leads to him being pulled into the Soul Society. Studio Pierrot adapted in a 366 episode series that ran between 2004 and 2012.
Bleach is receiving new interest from fans due to its upcoming live-action movie.
Manga creator Yusuke Murata has a huge following on social media due to his constant art updates. His explosive style can be seen in the remake chapters of One-Punch Man, which has a huge global readership.

Soon, you’ll be able to take home an iconic image from Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro.
Many anime fans dream of possessing key art from their favorite series. In fact, collecting is so rampant that the Japanese government is funding a museum to prevent collectors from snagging the valuable drawings.
As a response to fan demand, Studio Ghibli will be producing a limited number of reproductions if an iconic key visual from My Neighbor Totoro. Each cel is hand-crafted by Ghibli artists using a silk-screening process. They even released a video showcasing how the cels are made.
Each reproduced cel is overlayed on background art of a lush field and displayed in a frame made of Japanese Kishu Hinoki cypress. A hand-printed edition number and a certificate of authenticity are also included.
The collector’s item is priced at 70,000 yen ($640) and will be shipped in late July. Fan interested in pre-ordering a cel can visit Donguri Kyowakoku, which specializes in official Studio Ghibli merchandise.
