Tsunenori Saito is a veteran animator and character designer. They’ve worked on some big name titles, such as Cowboy Bebop (key animation), Fullmetal Alchemist (opening key animation), My Hero Academia (opening key animation), and Sword of the Stranger (animation director).

The Shinjuku Piccadilly theatre screened Sword of the Stranger to celebrate the movie’s 10th anniversary. This event led to Saito sharing a bevy of gorgeous art on Twitter.

This Tokyo Artist is Obsessed with Bakugo’s Crew and Crossovers

If you’re a fan of fanart and My Hero Academia, you probably saw @dendenkiribaku a lot in your Twitter feed lately. This Tokyo-based artist is known for their dedication to their favorite crew. 

In fact, it seems like their name is a combination of their favorite characters from My Hero Academia: Denden for the electric Denki, Kiri for the red-headed Kirishima, and Baku for the explosive Bakugo. Also featured often alongside the trio is the black-haired tape man, Hanta Sero, who isn’t seen as often in the anime and manga.

Dendenkiribaku is making waves this week for having 31 thousand followers on Twitter but reaching almost double that amount in likes in 4 days with this playful post.

 

Many times their retweets number in thousands and true to their name, they feature Bakugo and friends in 90% of their art posts.

 

Dendenkiribaku also does plenty of crossover fan art like these fun Cardcaptor Sakura cards and Hitman Reborn! illustrations.

Heikala’s Calming 1-Min Art Videos Are Bewitching Fans Everywhere

Heikala is an artist hailing from Finland who produces magical art that blends both European and Japanese folklore. She’s an enchanting traditional artist who has gained extra attention during October’s Inktober trend by with her masterful art progress videos. She uses watercolors, ink, and a few clever techniques to make her calming art.

 

Fans of mythical creatures, ghosts, and witches no doubt have seen Heikala’s art on their social media feeds before. Non-horror fans can embrace this art since it focuses on the cute, almost slice-of-life side of these fantastical creatures.

 

One of Heikala’s videos is standing out above the rest with 220,000 likes and almost 100,000 shares. It’s her Ghost Migration process video of a young witch flying over a city. It may give you Ghibli KiKi’s Delivery Service feels.

 

Fans were quick to praise Heikala’s work in Ghost Migration and marveled at the use of liquid frisket to aid in drawing the backgrounds. Liquid frisket is a water-based latex used to protect certain areas of a painting to prevent accidental mixing.

‘Pokemon’ Fans Think Ash Looks Better as a Girl in New Movie

Earlier this week, a teaser for the untitled summer 2018 Pokémon movie was released. The movie franchise offers the production staff an opportunity to play around with the cast’s designs and storyline.

This year’s movie will feature Wit Studio (Attack on Titan / The Ancient Magus’ Bride / Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) co-producing the animation with Shizue Kaneko (If Her Flag Breaks / Pan de Peace!) handling the designs.

Kaneko’s touch has led to Ash having a more delicate look as opposed to the Western cartoon style of Sun & Moon.

In fact, the smoothness of Ash’s lines has fan artists thinking he would look better as a girl. Japanese Twitter user @MAJIbeef kicked things off after sharing a simple redesign.

 

@kaneko09191010 elevated the work by giving Ash fuller lips and longer eyelashes.

 

@gurizaialoveeee lightened Ash’s skin to be more in-line with most of anime girls’ complexions.

 

@soomentabetai felt Pikachu wasn’t receiving any love, so Ash’s companion was given lush locks.

 

Pikachu’s new hair was great, but @chiy_07 was disappointed at how Ash neglected using proper cheek blush and lip balm. Better fix that!

 

@First02Victim decided Pikachu should be pink, because why not?

 

Why stop at turning Pikachu pink? @wasutagi_road improved everything with a little lipstick for Pikachu.

 

For the coup de grace, @misaman114 gave Ash and Pikachu larger eyes, because everyone knows anime girls have large eyes!

 

If the Pokemon production committee ever runs out of movie ideas, they can turn to fans for a gender-bender story.
